The Boulder chapter of the Grand Army of the Republic, comprising veterans of the Civil War, was organized on 19 April 1881 as Boulder Post No. 13, Department of the Mountains. In 1882 the western departments were reorganized and this chapter was renamed the Nathaniel Lyon Post No. 5, Department of Colorado and Wyoming.
